But chalk this one up, because such evocative writing is sometimes used to really make the reader wish that the author was, perhaps, just slightly less good at her job. And if Terence McKenna is right and consciousness-expanding plants accidentally opened the doors of perception for us homo sapiens thousands of years ago, then perhaps after being slammed shut for so long, the door is creaking open again.

This section of the story was ultimately inevitable and contains the most action sequences. It is an interesting contrast and certainly makes this worth reading and chewing over. However, I find my personal values and expectations about such a result diverge considerably from the author’s. The government creates a commission to look into the regulation of what the news industry has coined ‘Boomfood.’ I don’t want to give any of the rest of it away, so I won’t say too much more. This is a good book for those who want to read more Wells, beyond the usual Time Machine and War of the Worlds.
